A sting by several law enforcement agencies to nab child predators resulted in the arrest of five men from around the country, including one who was arrested in Door County.
Door County Sheriff's Investigator Jim Valley says the three-day operation involved the sheriff's departments from Door, Kewaunee and Brown counties along with the U.S. Marshals Service and Department of Justice.
Valley says members of the task force used Internet chat rooms to identify individuals who were willing to travel to northeast Wisconsin to meet an adult and pay money to have sex with an underage child. He says the man arrested in Door County was from Dallas, Texas.
Valley says he expects the agencies to collaborate on similar efforts in the future.
Valley says creating that barrier between predators and kids is critical.
"Without that effort it pretty much opens the door for predators to groom our children and possibly abuse our children," says Valley. "There are so many horror stories that this type of thing has happened to our children just via the Internet and I think our efforts, especially in northeast Wisconsin, in the state and throughout the nation are set to stop that and make it a point that we're not going to tolerate that in our community."
