The importance of riding their bikes safely and skillfully was the message imparted to students at Tuesday's Bike Rodeo at St Peters Lutheran School in Sturgeon Bay.
Rain washed out the road course portion of the event, but a classroom session taught the young riders everything from how to check their blind spot to making sure their helmet is the correct size.
The event was put on by the Sturgeon Bay Police Department and Door County Silent Sports Alliance.
DCSSA's Chesla Anschutz says it's important to teach kids about bike safety and the rules of the road at an early age.

Officers Isaiah Scudder and Conor Iverson showed the students a short video and then talked with the kids about the key points.
The kids didn't get to pilot their bikes through the pylons, but their rides did get the once-over from a local bike shop owner to make sure they were in proper working condition.
Anschutz says they're still deciding about rescheduling the skills portion of the event.
