Someone asked me the other day why they should register at VolunteerDoorCounty.com. The answer is simple. We can’t expect people to help when they don’t know where help is needed. Door County Daily News gives us the opportunity to let YOU know about this week’s Volunteer Center Connection opportunities:
Volunteers are needed to assist with the annual Door County YMCA Labor Day Duathlon/5K Run on September 1st from 7 - 11 am at the Northern Door Program Facility. Tasks include registration, parking attendants, refreshment servers, set-up/clean-up and assistance on the bike course. You may not be a runner or a biker, but you can always be a volunteer. Contact the Northern Door YMCA at 920-868-3660 or email jpalmer@doorcountyymca.org.
The Door County Invasive Species Team would like to invite you to volunteer your time taking to the waters of Clark Lake. On Saturday September 8th, the Clark Lake Advancement Association will be holding their annual Phragmites fest and they are in need of certified pesticide applicators and other volunteers to help treat this invasive grass on the shorelines of the lake. The workday will last from 8:30am-4pm. Tools and personal safety equipment will be provided as well as plenty of water and lunch! Feel free to bring a friend (or many)! Contact Paul at spaulsdoor@aol.com or Kari Hegenow at 743-8695 or khagenow@tnc.org.
Are you an avid reader of Door County media? The Hardy Gallery is in need of someone who can scan publications for relevant articles and publicity pertaining to the Hardy! The volunteer historian maintains an annual organizational scrapbook including news clippings, magazine articles, and program documentation and archives and maintains additional historical and noteworthy records pertaining to both the Hardy Gallery and the Door County art community. Contact Elizabeth at 920-854-2210 or emeissner@thehardy.org.
“The Volunteer Project” is a volunteer registration event celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Volunteer Center. We’re looking for volunteers to help us register those volunteers at different events throughout Door County. Set up our tables and displays, collect registration cards and hand out some very cool t-shirts. Even the Volunteer Center needs volunteers! Contact Pam at 746-7704 or volunteercenter@doorcounty.com.
