On Tuesday, voters in the 1st Assembly District will be deciding on a pair of Democratic candidates from Kewaunee County to see who will advance to the general election to take on incumbent Garey Bies.
Algoma's Arnie Johnsrud, a 1969 graduate of Southern Door High School, is a U.S. veteran, dairy farmer and teacher at Kewaunee High School.
Johnsrud's opponent is Patrick Veeser of Luxemburg, who announced his candidacy last September. The 54-year-old Veeser is a machinist at Paper Converting Machine Company and president of his local union.
Bies (R-Sister Bay) has held the seat since 2000.
Kewaunee County voters will see a county clerk's race on the ballot. Incumbent Linda Teske is facing a challenge from fellow Democrats Jamie Annoye and Christopher Baeb. The top vote-getter advances to face Republican Julie Siegmund on November 6.
