The remediation process continues on the future site of The Ridges Sanctuary Trailhead and Interpretive Center.
The Ridges purchased the Sandpiper property in Baileys Harbor to develop the Ridges Trailhead and Interpretive Center when a routine environmental investigation revealed soil contamination due to fish boils that had been held on that property for years.
Steve Leonard, executive director of The Ridges Sanctuary explains that cleaning the soil has taken some work.
While the remediation has taken some time Leonard says that they are now just waiting for results.
Leonard says one positive thing that has come out of this process is that more businesses are now more aware of the dangers of not controlling the fish boils and are starting to implement steps to control the run off of kerosene at fish boils.
