For some people the best part about a hot summer day is being inside an air conditioned room.
But that doesn't work so well when the air conditioner's not functioning properly.
Tom Kinnard of Kinnard Heating and Cooling says if your air conditioner isn't getting the job done, the very first thing to do is check the air filter...
Kinnard also says to make sure the outside unit is clear of any debris, shrubbery or other obstructions.
And if the unit isn't keeping things as cool as your set temperature there is another possibility: It's maxed out. Kinnard says on really hot days -- like Monday when the temperature flirted with 100 degrees -- the system may be working properly but it can be so hot outside that the A/C simply can't keep up...
Another tip: Close the shades. Kinnard says it'll make things a bit darker inside but it will make it easier to cool the room.
Kinnard was a guest on Monday's WRLU Country Music Morning Show with Nick Freimuth.
