Thanks to two very generous donations the Ridges Sanctuary now has the money needed to begin the full restoration project of the Baileys Harbor Lower Range Light. Steve Leonard, executive director of the Ridges Sanctuary says that although they now have the funds to start the project they still have a few hurdles left to clear.
Leonard explains that the range lights on Baileys Harbor are not just range lights. He says they have great significance not just to the town of Baileys Harbor but in history as well.
Both the lower and the upper range lights are on the National Register of Historic Places. The restoration of the lower range light will have to adhere to specific guidelines that have been delineated by the Secretary of the Interior.
