Today marks the annual Rio Creek Fly In. The Summer Fly In brought about 25-30 aircraft to Kewaunee’s Rio Creek Airfield.
The event is sponsored by the Rio Creek Aviation Foundation. Member Brian Dauck says pilots from Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and all over Wisconsin took part in the event…
Dauck says many pilots participate in Fly Ins like the one at the Rio Creek Airfield because it gives them a justification to make a journey by air…
The Fly In offered youngsters a chance for a ride along with pilots, but Dauck says new sterner Federal Aviation Administration rules make the number of plane rides available limited.
Dauck says even those who didn’t make it for a ride along had a great time, with a lot of classic planes to see, a pancake breakfast, burgers and brats for lunch, an antique car and tracker display, and a live polka band.
Funds donated at the Fly In allow the 501c3 Rio Creek Aviation Foundation to sponsor other events throughout the year. The Foundation puts on the Young Eagles day in June which also gives kids free airplane rides, the “Wings and Things” educational program in the fall, and various other aviation related activities.
