Gail Karstaedt of Sturgeon Bay says she doesn't feel like a hero.
But Charlie Dams may give you a different story.
The two live in the same subdivision on the city's east side. On a recent Thursday, Gail heard Charlie mowing the lawn, then heard the mower sound like it stopped moving.
"I heard it and I figured, well he was just fixin' something so I was going to go out and talk to him," says Gail.
But she found out quickly something was wrong and that Charlie was suffering a major allergic reaction to a wasp sting.
So Gail called 911 for an ambulance to take Charlie to the hospital.
She says that night the fire department came to take care of the wasp nest.
Gail, who's being saluted as a 'Door County Good Neighbor of the Day' for her efforts, says she's glad her neighbor's okay but says she didn't do anything exceptional...
Gail says at first Charlie didn't know who had called 911.
"He didn't even realize that I was the one there at first," says Gail. "He was in pretty bad shape and his wife, after she found out about it, she stopped in to let me know he was okay." She says later Charlie gave her a plant and a card to show his appreciation. Like any good neighbor would.
