A rock cairn building contest will be one of the new activities this year at the annual summer picnic at Rock Island State Park, which will take place Saturday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The cairn contest will take place on the rocky beach north of the boat dock with prizes awarded for the most creative rock-stackers. All ages are welcome to participate.
There will be a silent auction throughout the event, lunch will be available to purchase, and at noon Galynne and MarkonDrums will perform a concert of their own music along with songs inspired by Rock Island history and adventure.
The event is hosted by the Friends of Rock Island State Park. Proceeds will go toward park maintenance and the Pottawatomie Lighthouse Museum.
The Karfi ferry will be running between Jackson Harbor on Washington Island and Rock Island from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
