A Southern Door high school student is attending the Interlochen Arts Camp this summer. Sixteen year old Kaira Rouer will continue her flute studies at Interlochen, the northeastern Michigan Center for the Arts which has produced such distinguished alumni as Norah Jones, Josh Groban, and Rufus Wainwright.
Rouer has excelled at the flute since she first picked it up in fifth grade. This year she received two exemplary soloist awards, playing a flute solo from memory and a piccolo solo near perfectly off of sheet music.
Rouer’s program will run six weeks. She says she looks forward to being surrounded by other passionate musicians at Interlochen
The Interlochen Arts Camp is definitely a different experience then the musical studies Rouer has taken part in thus far; she says an emphasis is really put on the “Camp” portion of the name.
And Rouer says that environment is going to be “awesome.”
The camp will run until August 6th. When she finishes high school, Rouer hopes to focus her education on flute performance with a double major in nursing.
