The Sturgeon Bay School District didn't have to look too far to find a new athletic director.
Pat Blizel, a teacher and coach at Sturgeon Bay High School, is the pick for the busy position.
District Superintendent Joe Stutting says Blizel got the nod because he's done the job in the past and has 15 years experience as athletic director.
Blizel teaches social studies and coaches girls varsity basketball and boys JV baseball, although Stutting says Blizel will give up the baseball duties as part of his new role.
Stutting, who's been handling the A.D. chores since Gary Rabach's departure, says he'll happily tag out of the role.
"It is amazing the number of emails and little things that were coming in over the last month when we lost Mr. Rabach," says Stutting. "It allows me to focus on my primary job as being the superintendent of schools and all those things that we need to do to get ready for the start of next school year."
The school board won't officially act on the recommendation until the June 20 meeting, but Stutting says the transition has already begun.
Scott Brunswick and Mike Taylor were the other finalists for the job.
