An encore viewing of a special Wisconsin Public Television program will lead off the 2012 season for the Birch Creek Music Performance Center with the summer concert season set to begin a week later.
A presentation of WPT's Jazz at Birch Creek, featuring Birch Creek's Academy Jazz Orchestra and Student Jazz Bands, will take place June 21 at 7 p.m. in the Dutton Concert Barn at Birch Creek. Wisconsin Public Television Producer, Deb Piper, will be on hand to present the film and answer questions. Several students from Wisconsin will be featured in the program. So is faculty member David Bixler, who was born and raised in Racine. The event is free and open to the public but reservations are requested at (920) 868-3763.
The Center's concert series kicks off on Thursday, June 28, with Conductor Brian Groner and the Birch Creek Symphony Orchestra presenting "Great Beginnings" in the Dutton Concert Barn.
“Great Beginnings” not only marks the opening night of summer concerts at Birch Creek, it also signifies the beginning of some very promising musical careers as it features the Birch Creek 2011 Student Concerto winners. Alessandro Tenorio-Bucci, clarinetist from La Grange, IL will perform Claude Debussy’s Premiere Rhapsodie. Joshua Weinberg, flutist from St. Peter, MN will perform Francois Borne’s Fantasie Brillante sur Carmen.
On Friday, June 29 and Saturday June 30, Jodie DeSalvo is the featured piano soloist during the “Meet the Masters” concert. Ms. DeSalvo will be performing Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. When asked why she chose to perform this selection DeSalvo replied, “I love this piece because of its famous 18th variation. The audience is very familiar with it and it’s the perfect piece for summertime in Door County!”
