After a bitter cold winter that claimed many trees, cherry season has returned to Door County. While fresh cherries have been available, many orchards are open for the general public to pick their own cherries.
Dave Schartner of Schartner’s Farm Market in Egg Harbor says good weather has helped their crop this year.
With cherry yields and prices similar to last year, pickers choose where to go and whether they want their cherries tart or sweet. Schartner offers some advice when picking this week.
Before you go cherry picking, be sure to ask which areas are open for pick-your-own and the variety of cherries you are allowed to pick.
