Fresh whole peaches, nectarines and plums purchased at Wal-Mart and other national chains are being voluntarily recalled by the Wawona Packing Company of Cutler, California, over a concern about possible contamination.
The peaches, nectarines and plums were packed between June 1 and July 12 and may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illnesses related to the recall have yet been reported. The packer is working with the US Department of Agriculture.
