Nearly three years of planning, dreaming and fundraising culminated yesterday with the first chunks of soil being turned for Sturgeon Bay’s skatepark. City officials, donors, fund raisers and skaters came together for the event at the site on West Spruce Street.
Skatepark Initiative Co-Chair Laurel Hauser says they kept focused every day on the goal of raising $425,000.
Mark Scott is the owner of Dreamland Skateparks, the company selected to build the facility. He and the project manager were pounding stakes and getting ready to dig.
Construction is expected to last until early September.
