Door County’s first same sex marriage license application was filed at just before 11:30 today.
Door County Clerk Jill Lau says they were told this morning they could accept applications.
The first application was filed by Barbara Zahn and Ann Rifenberg, who brought a small crowd with them to the Clerk’s office. Ann says they have been waiting almost 25 years for this day.
Ann and Barbara plan to be married on June 21.
Meanwhile State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen continues to try to stop licenses being issued while the ruling filed Friday declaring Wisconsin’s gay marriage ban unconstitutional is being appealed.
