The state Senate is expected to vote on a bill tomorrow that would force insurance companies in Wisconsin to cover oral chemotherapy treatments for cancer the same way they cover IV treatments.
Dr. Anthony Jaslowski provides services for Ministry Door County Medical Center through Green Bay Oncology. He says while IV chemotherapy treatments are covered as an in-patient service, the chemotherapy pills are viewed just like any other prescription by insurance companies.
Under the bill passed last week by the state Assembly, out-of-pocket expenses for oral chemotherapy would be capped at $100 per month.
The Senate is expected to send the bill on to Governor Walker, who has said he will sign it into law.
The reduced prices would start in January of 2015.
