The continued cold weather and propane supply and price issues are hitting a lot of families hard.
Sandy Duckett of We Are HOPE, Inc. in Sturgeon Bay says they have received 50 heating emergency calls in the last month and applications for heating assistance are up twelve percent. But people are also pitching in to help.
Duckett says We Are HOPE, Inc. is always accepting cash donations for their emergency heating fund.
People who are dialing back the thermostat to save propane need to make sure they don’t let the temperature get so low that water pipes freeze during the cold weather expected later this weekend.
Door County has declared several locations – public libraries, the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department and the Door County Senior Resource Center – as warming centers for those who need to get out of the cold. For a complete list of warming sites around the state, go to ReadyWisconsin.wi.gov.
