Officials now say fire completely destroyed a single-family home and its contents on Crevice Lane in the town of Casco Wednesday.
Luxemburg Fire Chief Lew Du Chateu says firefighters entered the burning home through the garage at about 2:15 yesterday afternoon and spent 45 minutes fighting the fire in the living room before the house became unstable. Fire fighters continued to fight the fire from outside, but because of ceiling and floor collapse it was difficult to get to the base of the fire.
Du Chateu says the extreme cold caused some equipment problems for fire departments.
Fire fighters were on the scene for more than eight hours.
Casco, Luxemburg, Algoma, New Franken, Kewaunee, Brussels – Union – Gardner and Southern Door departments all answered the call for mutual aid.
The family – two adults and two children – were not home at the time the fire started. Six dogs that were in the building got out safely. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
There were no injuries.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
