Distinguished Lecture Series: Does National Culture Matter in Management? - DCA iCal

Saturday, February 22 2014 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

On Saturday, February 22 at 9 a.m., the DCA’s Distinguished Lecture Series will offer a lecture entitled “Does National Culture Matter in Management?” presented by St. Norbert College assistant professor of management Dr. Jamie O’Brien.

O’Brien’s lecture explores five dimensions of national culture that have an impact on how organizations might manage most effectively across countries: power distance, individualism, masculinity, uncertainty avoidance, and long- versus short-term focus. In the era of globalization, competitive advantage is at a premium, and how to manage people remains a differentiating factor. Understanding how national culture affects management style can be a key strategy for organizations in the United States, especially in overseas expansion.

O’Brien’s lecture is free to the public (goodwill donations accepted) and is sponsored by Dahl Law Firm and Ross Estate Planning; lodging is provided by Apple Creek Resort-Motel and Suites. Refreshments from Base Camp Coffee Shop will be available for purchase.
