A Taste Of Theater Festival. This festival will feature Shelly Garrett creator of Beauty Shop, Prof. Charles Smith, Irene Gandy Broadway's only Black Female Press agent and Mike Oquendo teaching theater classes during the day. There will be theater performances in the evening. Playwrights will showcase one scene of their play for the audience to vote on. The playwright with the most votes will receive the Shelly Garrett Award. This two-day event seeks to educate and expose participants to the theater experience on and behind the stage through daily workshops on topics such as scripts, staging, costumes, promotion/marketing and other aspects of the business. Expert panelists will share their knowledge and experiences with theater production enthusiasts. The event will be live and available via the computer on webcast. It will be held at the Portage Theater 4050 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL. 60641 October 12-13,2012.
