By Bob Desotelle The Packerland Conference’s first place team won a big non-conference game against Green Bay East Tuesday 2-0. Sturgeon Bay’s Anna Fischer scored in the 61st minute to give visiting Sturgeon Bay a 1-0 lead to open scoring on the night. In the 75th minute, Anna Fischer scored a PK to finish scoring for the night. Keeper McKenna Gibson had 6 saves for Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay East’s Guadalupe Trevina had 5. Sturgeon Bay outshot Green Bay East 6 to 5. “We struggled the entire first half to adjust to playing on turf (it was Sturgeon Bays first game on turf this season), but settled in during the second half and started organizing our attacks better. Maddy Starr’s pass to Anna on the first goal was a beauty and Anna beat two defender to score. 10 minutes later that duo connected again resulting in a PK after a foul in the box. This was a nice win for our team”. Sturgeon Bay plays Sevastopol/Gibraltar Thursday in a conference match up. Sturgeon Bay improves to 6-2-3 on the season with this win.
