By John Berns With Memorial Field as the setting on Thursday, Sturgeon Bay took apart New Lutheran 14-4 in a baseball game which was settled in five innings. Jake Schneider twirled a 2-hitter in a solid performance, which saw Schneider issue a single walk while fanning nine Blazer batters. Ryan Jacobson was the hitting star with a 3×5 night featuring three doubles and five RBI. Jacobson’s efforts were backed by Trent Ehlers with 2×4 including a single, a double and two RBI. Max Bordeau went 2×3 including a single and a double. Eric Voskamp took the loss for the Blazers, who were led at the plate by a Sam Meerstein’s double and a two-run home run from Voskamp.
The Clippers now travel to Fish Creek to play a Friday doubleheader against the Vikings, with the opener at 4:00 being an opportunity for Sturgeon Bay to clinch a tie for the Packerland Conference title. Jared Van Bramer will take the mound for the Clippers in their effort to secure a co-championship with the Peshtigo Bulldogs.
