By Nick Freimuth The Packers entered Friday night without a third-round draft pick but first year General Manager Brian Gutekunst pulled off his third trade in as many rounds. The Packers gave up a fourth-round pick (101) and fifth round pick (147) to snare the 88th overall selection in the third round.
Gutekunst continued to shore up Green Bay’s defense with a versatile player from Vanderbilt University Oren Burks. The linebacker played three different positions in college and had incredible measurables at the combine including a 10’11” broad jump and a 4.95 40-yard dash time.
At 233 pounds and 6’ 3” tall, Burks will be asked to play inside linebacker and will be able to drop into coverage and stay with tight ends down the seam. His size and speed will also make him a leader on special teams in 2018 and beyond.
