The defending state champion Algoma girls’ track team showed Thursday the only thing that could beat them was Mother Nature. Algoma captured Oconto Falls Invitational title, scoring 142.5 points. Katelyn Williams won three individual titles and the 4 x 100 relay also took gold. Kewaunee boasted several champions of its own to score 95 points in their fourth-place finish while Sturgeon Bay collected 54 points in their 7th place finish.
In softball, Sturgeon Bay rebounded from a 4-0 deficit to tie Peshtigo 4-0 with Grace Abeyta and Andie Rockendorf collecting doubles. Kewaunee swept their doubleheader against Gibraltar 14-1 and 12-2 with Claire Kohnle pitching a complete game first and combining to close out the action in the second. Algoma made quick work of NEW Lutheran with an 18-0 victory in four innings, led by Mikayla Haack’s home run at the plate and one-hit performance on the mound.
In soccer, Gibraltar/Sevastopol scored two unanswered to top NEW Lutheran 2-1. Sarah Kifer collected both tallies.
