In Packerland Conference boys basketball a big upset took place in Peshtigo. The host team had been flirting around .500 most of the season and upset second place Sturgeon Bay Thursday night. The 66-47 loss all but guarantees Southern Door the Packerland Conference championship. The undefeated Eagles now have a three game lead with three games left. The Eagles did guarantee at least a share of the title and need just one win in their next three games to clinch the championship outright.
Carson Talbert again led the Clippers with 13 points but got very little help elsewhere. Only three other players made more than one field goal (Brady Wodack, Michael Rose and Jared VanBramer). None of the other three players scored more than six points. The Clippers were down just four points at half time and were outscored 39-24 in the second half.
Southern Door had their way with Sevastopol 89-62. The conference champs saw Kyle Daoust go off for for 28 points but was bested by teammate Sam Gerend’s 30 points. Derik LeCaptain added 16 points in the win. Sevastopol was led by Johnny Jorns with 14 points and Robby Pollman’s team high 22 points.
Gibraltar fell to NEW Lutheran 56-49 despite a solid outing. The Vikings hung with the Blazers the entire game but could never maintain a lead. Trevor Reinhardt and Alex Laughlin each scored 13 points in the loss while Andras Szakala poured in 11 points for Gibraltar. Samuel Meerstein scored an incredible 21 points for NEW Lutheran.
Algoma was unable to hang with Oconto in a 76-49 loss Thursday night. Aiden Wallace was the only Wolves player to reach double digits in the loss. Connor Ebben scored a game high 24 points and teammate Carson Moe added 21 pouints.
