The United States Coast Guard is warning that the warmer temperatures this weekend can pose safety concerns for those planning to recreate on or near ice. Fishing Guide JJ Malvitz says you should use common sense and take precautions if you plan on venturing on the ice.
The U.S. Coast Guard warns that ice is unpredictable and the thickness can vary, even in small areas. Warm temperatures and currents, particularly around narrow spots, bridges, inlets, and outlets, are always suspect for thin ice. Temperatures topped 40 degrees yesterday in the area and are forecast to stay above average freezing through the weekend.
