The Brian Gutekunst Era has officially begun in Green Bay. The new general manager took no time to make his first signing. On Wednesday Gutekunst signed former Chicago Bears running back Joel Bouagnon. The Northern-Illinois graduate will join Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Ty Montgomery and Devante Mays as the stable of running backs prior to the 2018 NFL Draft. The Packers released the following information on the first year back:
Bouagnon (jo-ELL bwon-NYO), a 6-foot-2, 230-pound first-year player out of Northern Illinois, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bears on May 12, 2017. He was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 5 before being released by the Bears on Aug. 9. Bouagnon finished his collegiate career ranked No. 9 in school history in carries (600), No. 11 in rushing yards (2,911), No. 7 in rushing touchdowns (31) and No. 6 in total touchdowns (34). He earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors as a senior after posting a team-high 885 yards on 182 carries (4.9 avg.) with eight TDs. As a junior in 2015, he finished second in the conference with a career-best 1,285 yards on 283 carries (4.5 avg.) with a career-high 18 TDs on his way to first-team All-MAC recognition.
