The Southern Door Eagles had their 2017 season come to an end with a 26-14 loss to Laconia Friday.
What looked promising after a 14-6 lead at the half, the Eagles would be shutout in the second half.
On 4th and 10 with 1:58 remaining in the first quarter, Derik LeCaptain and Sam Gerend connected on a 32-yard touchdown for the games first score.
Laconia would get a 75-yard kick return from Jacob Davies on the following kickoff and score three players later on a 7-yard run by Alex Turner. After the failed extra point the score was 7-6. That would be the score after the first.
Southern Door quickly responded with a touchdown of their own, when the Eagles drove the length of the field at the beginning of the second quarter and scored on a LeCaptain one yard run. After Andrew Montana kicked the extra point it was 14-6.
That would be the score at the break.
Laconia’s quarterback Cormac Madigan would take over the second half. Madigan scored on the Spartans opening drive of the third quarter on a 36-yard touchdown run. Then gave his team the lead at 20-14 with a 3-yard run at the 1:40 mark.
In the final frame, Madigan capped off the final scoring play with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth.
LeCaptain finished with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Gerend finished with his lone score and broke his older brother Mitchell’s record for receptions and yards.
With the win, Laconia will now play Valders next week. Valders upset Howard’s-Grove.
