Packers quarterback Brett Hundley has been waiting patiently for this opportunity for three years now. “Having a mentor like Aaron Rodgers has been a true gift from God,” Hundley said after Sunday’s game in Minnesota. The former UCLA quarterback had quite the pedigree coming out of Chandler, Arizona. One of the most recruited players in the nation, Hundley appeared twice on the cover of Sports Illustrated while at UCLA.
The Packers have used the draft and develop model with Hundley. After one of the most accomplished pre-seasons in the NFL his rookie year, Hundley injured his ankle in his second season and played very little in the pre-season last year. Now in his third season with Coach Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers, Hundley says he has a better grasp of the offense and it ready for this challenge.
A full week of preparation with the first string offense will make a difference in his preparedness. In a typical week when Rodgers was healthy, Hundley would see a couple, if any, first team snaps in practice. His chance to shine starts Sunday at Lambeau Field against the New Orleans Saints. All eyes will be on number 7 for the foreseeable future. Hundley is not only playing for the Packers but for 31 other NFL teams that may show serious interest in the young quarterback entering his final year under contract with the Green Bay Packers next season.
Brett Hundley is a co-host on the Jim Olson Motors Red Zone and will next appear on Monday, October 30th at Jim Olson Ford on Duluth Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. He will be joined by another member of the Green Bay Packers for the 5:30 – 7:00 PM weekly talk show on 104.1 FM WRLU.
