The Sturgeon Bay Clippers took Southern Door to the brink Friday night in the Town of Gardener. The Eagles came from behind and won their homecoming game 27-21 in overtime. Derik LeCaptain on an injured ankle carried the ball 33 times for 96 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Eagles. Kyle Daoust finished 16/24 passing for 255 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Sam Gerrend was huge in the fourth quarter and overtime hauling in 11 catches for 172 yards and one touchdown. Andrew Montana also had a nice game at wide receiver. He hauled in a 47-yard touchdown to tie the game at seven in the first quarter.
Sturgeon Bay got a great game from senior quarterback Ethan Knipfer. He was 11/23 for 127 yards passing. He threw for two touchdowns, ran for one and threw one interception. Knipfer was also excellent as a runner Friday night. Ryan Jacobson combined for 93 yards of offense on 12 carries and seven receptions. Jared Van Bramer finished 4/63 receiving with one interception and a crucial interception at the end of regulation to force overtime. Brady Wodack caught the game-tying touchdown with :37 seconds left on the clock. He finished with two catches for 36 yards.
In overtime, Southern Door scored first on a wildcat quarterback keeper by LeCaptain. The Eagles missed the extra point. Sturgeon Bay had 4th and 1 from the 16-yard-line and failed to convert. The loss eliminated Sturgeon Bay from post season consideration. The win secures a MONLPC Championship for Southern Door.
