Tonight Gibraltar/Sevastopol beat Algoma 3-2 at Gibraltar High School. Scoring for Gibraltar/Sevastopol were Ben Fitzgerald, Jose Tlatempa and Evan Lardinois. Will Albertson had an assist. These two teams are extremely well matched. Algoma won the first match of the season by one goal and now the “Vikineers” won the second match again by one goal.
Sturgeon Bay powered past Kewaunee last night 7-2. Coach Todd Maas said, “I know I sound like a broken record here again. But the quality of our game is spot on at times and then the next moment it’s like we are still in our first couple days of training camp. Our first half we score relatively early and then in the next few minutes give up a crazy sloppy ball off a corner. Things like that just can’t happen in order for us have success down the stretch. Our half time score was 5-1.”
Jaden Stevenson had another hat trick scoring three goals for the Clippers plus an assist. Ben DeNamur had two goals. Owen Stevenson and Eli Deitzel both had a goal as well. Gunnar Tebon and Dylan Burk each added an an assist in the win. The Clippers had 22 shots while the Storm were held to six.
Coach Maas added, “We did do some very nice things. In fact one of our new up and comers Ben DeNamur scored two of his first career goals in a matter of 15-20 minutes. It was awesome to see his hard work paying off. But that quality isn’t always there. Their potential is so high, and that’s what aggravates me to see them sloppy. Our second half was a bit better. We didn’t score as much but the quality of play and passing was coming together. Back to practice we go for the next couple days then down to Algoma on Thursday and Homecoming game on Saturday vs FVL.”
