It was a battle of the L-C’s Thursday when Luxemburg-Casco beat Little Chute three games to one in high school volleyball. The Spartans only lost the second of four games (25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 25-11). Megan Cannon did a phenomenal job as the court general dishing out 47 assists, adding 11 digs and five aces. Alexis Dorner tallied 17 kills and six aces. Cassie Schiltz added 14 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Molly Wotruba was the leader in the back row with 35 digs and two aces.
Spartans Coach Jeff Frey said, “To have the #2 team in the state and the defending conference champion come into our gym and have our girls play the way we did was awesome. We have been talking a lot about three things; focus, consistency and confidence and I thought we did all three of those things very well tonight. To top it all off, it was Pink Out night and our parents and the entire community as well as Little Chute really came together to make it a special night.“
Sturgeon Bay played Peshtigo and lost in five 25-19; 11-25; 25-20; 20-25; 15-6. Hailey DeGrave had 19 attack kills, two aces, and two solo block kills. Morgan Nelson had 23 set assists. Coach Stacey Judas said, “We came out strong in the first set. By the second set, Peshtigo came alive and caught us off guard. We turned it around to play toe-to-toe in the third. Our passing was inconsistent and took us out of our element in the last two sets. Overall, we’re playing well and I’m looking forward to our upcoming matches going into Homecoming week.”
