The mural on the iconic fence on Lombardi Avenue outside of Lambeau field was unveiled last evening. Zane Statz, local mural artist and graphic designer, originally from Door County and living now in Green Bay, creates the themed mural each with fellow artist and designer Spencer Young. The mural spans the 70’ x 6’ fence that, until recent years, had the Packer’s slogan on it. Three seasons ago, the theme was Eddie Lacy and the Cheesehead Nation, and last year’s display was of Roger’s to Roger’s hail Mary that occurred in Detroit. This year, the design is focused on “The Defenders of Lambeau”.
The work of the mural had taken about 14 hours yesterday, finished at 8:00 p.m. last night. The fence is painted over every year so Statz and Young use a mixture of high-grade house paint, acrylic paint and some spray paint for the effects. They begin the season’s planning with 20-30 concepts before finalizing with the fence’s owner, and Zane finds much enjoyment in the final unveiling.
There were many visitors of the mural last evening, and both Clay Matthews and Mike Daniels tweeted the new mural overnight. Over 100,000 people will see it today at the Packer’s first home game of the season.
