The Milwaukee Brewers faced the National League’s best the last two weekends and walked out of it 5-2 after defeating the Washington Nationals 7-2 Sunday afternoon.
Five different relievers teamed up to defeat the NL East leading Nationals, not giving up a run until Junior Guerra gave up a Ryan Zimmerman home run in the top of the 9th. Brewers hitting punished Nationals pitcher Edwin Jackson, tagging him for five runs in less than six innings, including a pair of homers by Domingo Santana.
The Brewers made up a game in the standings after the Chicago Cubs saw their winning streak snapped Sunday at home against the Atlanta, leaving a 3.5 game gap between the two teams. Chase Anderson will take the ball when the Brewers open their road trip Monday afternoon against the Cincinnati Reds.
