Sturgeon Bay Soccer is off to a (2-0) start to the season after topping Kewaunee 5-1 Thursday. Jaden Stevenson scored a hat trick (three goals) all in the first half. In the second half, Eli Deitzel scored on a perfectly placed ball in upper 90′ on a restart from around 25-30 yards out. Finally, Owen Stevenson scored on a shot off the right side that tucked its way into the back of the net for Sturgeon Bay’s fifth goal.
Coach Todd Maas said, “I have to give a lot of credit to the boys of Kewaunee. They only had 10 players make the trip but they play organized and with heart. They have some nice players on the defensive line that kept things in check. Their goal came off a through ball down the pipe late in the game. A couple of our Defenders did not pick up a runner through our line, and he beat our keeper who came out to challenge 1 on 1.”
Maas also said, “For us we have a few goals for the guys to strive for. One was possess the ball and get things moving. We did an ok job the first half, too many turnovers for our liking in what we were trying to accomplish. Second half I thought we did a lot better.”
Sturgeon Bay has will next play at Notre Dames Field in Green Bay vs. Rice Lake On Saturday at 10:00am.
