The Luxemburg-Casco pulled away in the second half to defeat the Denmark Vikings 34-14 in a North Eastern Conference football opener Friday night in Luxemburg.
The Spartans capitalized on a Viking fumble on their first possession and took a 7-0 lead on a Nathan Coisman first of two touchdown runs. The Spartans took a slim 14-7 lead into halftime as 50 years of Luxemburg-Casco football was celebrated with over 100 alumnus honored at intermission. L-C came out and scored two early third quarter touchdowns to seal the victory.
Spartan Garrit Aissen making his first varsity start at quarterback was 10 for 19 in passing for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Ian Doell had a big game at receiver with 100 yards on six catches. The running game of Coisman, Austin Tlachac and Dakota Robinson combined for 273 yards as the Spartans big offensive night exploded for over 400 yards in total offense. Dawson Gmeinder led a stingy Spartan defense with eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Luxemburg-Casco (1-0) will now travel to Appleton to play the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes next Friday night. The game will be broadcast on 96.7FM WBDK with the pregame starting at 6:30 p.m. and kick-off set for 7 p.m.
