A weekend of great pitching duels concluded Sunday afternoon with the division-leading Chicago Cubs taking the game 4-2 and the series 2-1. Only a couple baserunners represented the offense until the sixth inning when the Cubs registered four straight 2-out hits, including RBIs by Wilson Contreras and Addison Russell against Brewers pitcher Zach Davies. The Brewers would get those two runs right back off of Cubs pitcher John Lackey with a two run homer by Domingo Santana. Solo home runs in consecutive innings by Victor Caratini and Kris Bryant put the Cubs ahead before closer Wade Davis closed the door in the 9th.
The Brewers will have a day off Monday while waiting to see what moves will be done before the trade deadline, which occurs at 3 p.m. Miller Park will be rocking again on Tuesday when the Brewers face the St. Louis Cardinals starting at 6:40 p.m.
