The Green Bay Bullfrogs drop game two of the two-game series against the Rockford Rivets 11-8. The Bullfrogs for the fifth straight game have had the tying run at the plate and lost. The Frogs losing pitcher on the night is Will Gilbert, Gilbert pitched five innings, allowing five runs, and four strikeouts. The winning pitcher for the Rockford Rivets is Michael Kaska.
The Bullfrogs would go down in the contest 2-0, but, would respond with two runs of their own in the second inning, Willie Bourbon hit a RBI single and Richie Tecco hit a sacrifice fly that scored Mikey Filia. The Frogs would plate another run in the third inning, taking a 3-2 lead off of a Riley Smith fielder’s choice, that scored Brad Hamilton. The Rivets managed a three-run fifth inning and a four-run seventh to really break things opening taking a 9-4 lead into the eighth inning. The Bullfrogs would put three more runs across in the eighth to make things interesting, including scoring two runs off of a Rivets error bringing the score to 9-7. The Rivets would take the momentum back however with two runs in the ninth inning, taking a four-run lead into the bottom of the ninth. Alex Pener would lead the inning out with a solo shot bringing the Frogs within three. That’s when the Frogs would put two runners on and Chris Sabo would bring in Zack Plunkett to pinch hit, Plunket had his mind set on homer in the at-bat to try to tie things up and got ahead in the count 3-1 but would go down swinging, ending the game.
The Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Player of the Game is Mikey Filia. Filia tonight managed to get on base every time he came up to bat. Filia’s stat line on the night: 3-3, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 R.
The Bullfrogs will look to try to break the skid tomorrow when they travel to Lakeshore to take on the Chinooks. The Bullfrogs are 2-2 against the Lakeshore Chinooks this season. Winning both games against the Fish on the road.
