The Milwaukee Brewers have been thee surprise team in Major League Baseball this season. While the Houston Astros look like the class of the league, Milwaukee continues to stay atop the National League Central Division. Yes, the Cubs and Cardinals are under-performing. Had anyone predicted the Brewers would be four games above .500 and have a two game lead over the Cubs on July 3, most Wisconsin baseball fans would have thought you were crazy.
By holding a two-game lead on Monday, at the very worst they would still lead the division on July 5. Wednesday marks the 40th consecutive game, the Brewers will be in first place. Not for one single day since May 27th has the ‘Brew Crew’ slipped into second. This is a remarkably impressive streak.
Miller Park will play host to an inter-league series starting this afternoon at 2:10. The Cubs have the day off today and will a short two-game series against the Rays starting tomorrow. Then the top two teams will meet Thursday at Wrigley Field for one game before the Brewers fly out top New Your to play the Yankees for a weekend series.
