The Milwaukee Brewers are still in first place but are now tied with the Chicago Cubs after a 7-2 loss Monday night at Miller Park. The San Francisco Giants and pitcher Jeff Samardzija kept the Brewers bats in check. Samardzija struck out ten in 7 2/3 innings and 119 pitches. It was just his second win of the season and his first in 11 tries at Miller Park.
Milwaukee scored both of their runs in the first inning. Hernan Perez doubled and drove in a run in the first. The second scored on a throwing error from the center fielder on the same play. Eric Sogard was teh only player with a multi-hit game in the loss.
Brett Phillips made his Major League debut in center field Monday. He had hist first hit and added an outfield assist in the game.
