Oostburg’s Ashley Swihart had a hat trick and Gia Minneci and Meghan Batzer each scored to lead Oostburg to a 5-0 Regional Final win. Sturgeon Bay’s McKenna Gibson had 16 saves in goal. We understood the challenge coming into this game. We had to slay a dragon. Our backup keeper McKenna Gibson, a freshman, battled relentlessly to help keep us in this game. We found ourselves in a defensive mode all night and struggled to get the ball forward. But we played with heart, spirit and pride. Now that we have punched through to the next level in the playoffs it is clear our players want more. While the loss was hard to accept, a since of determination and passion was evident after the game. This team had a fantastic turn around in the past four years with our departing senoirs. This group won just one game their sophomore year and scored 5 goals in that season. The Clippers end this season 9-9-2 with 60 goals scored and a 5-3 record in conference. Our seniors included Captains Charlie Pollock, Rebecca Osborne, Stephanie Jones and Dana Powers and fellow classmates Vanessa Ortiz, Moriah Grahl, Gabi Mogen, Ashton Spritka, Jenna Auguston and Kaylee McNew. The coaches are proud of of this group for their accomplishments. Looking forward, the Sturgeon Bay Clipper Girls will be reloading next year, not rebuilding. Dragons do not live forever.
