Herman E. Fager, 80, Algoma, passed away peacefully, May 31, 2017 at home in the company of loving family. He was born July 21, 1936 in Springfield, Ohio to Fred and Almeda (Long) Fager.
Herman married Judy A. Schwantes Dec. 5, 1959 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kewaunee. Herman was drafted into the US Army in 1960 and served two years ending with an honorable discharge in 1962 as a Specialist 4th Class in the Quartermaster at Fort Lee, Virginia. In 1966, Herman and Judy became life-long farmers after saving enough money to make the down payment on the farm where he spent the remainder of his hard-working life. In his later years, Herman sold the dairy cows and continued to raise beef cattle as well as selling the yearly soybean harvest until he retired in 2014 when declining health no longer allowed Herman to continue farming.
Herman is survived by his wife Judy, two daughters Mary (Scott) Haucke, Algoma; Sara Lardo (Adam Scudder), Brussels and son Jeremiah (Jill) Fager, Kewaunee; three grandchildren Sam, Cody and Jayde.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son Herman Jr., daughter Melissa, grandson Grant Lardo, son-in-law Glen Lardo, three sisters Mary, Betty and Ruth and one brother Fred Fager.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Unity Hospice for their dedication and effort while providing quality care during the last month. They were a blessing to Judy and family allowing Herman to stay in the comfort of his home. The family would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to Grace Matzke for the care she gave Herman and staying with him when needed.
A memorial gathering will be held honoring Herman on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma, from 6 PM until the time of service at 8 PM with Rev. Mark Englebert officiating.
