Rain has been the biggest winner of the WIAA Regional Softball tournament so far. Only a couple games have been played and Door and Kewaunee County school have fared extremely well. Algoma, Southern Door and Sevastopol have all won their opening round games and are moving on in the tournament. Gibraltar, Sturgeon Bay, Kewaunee and Luxemburg-Casco will play their first games of the regional tournament tonight/this afternoon weather permitting.
On Tuesday, Sevastopol earned a “Mercy Rule” victory over Living World Lutheran. A 17-5 win propels them into a regional semi-final game against #1 seed Oakfield this afternoon in Division 5.
Algoma topped St. Mary Catholic 5-1 Tuesday and will play in a regional final Friday against an opponent to be determined. Also in Division 4, Gibraltar is waiting to play their opening round regional quarterfinal game against Stockbridge/Hilbert today.
Southern Door beat #6 seed New Holstein 4-1 yesterday. The #3 seed Eagles will match up in a regional final Friday against likely opponent Chilton, a #2 seed. Sturgeon Bay and Kewaunee will each play their opening round games this afternoon if weather allows.
In Division 2, Luxemburg-Casco will play Two Rivers today in a regional semi-final match up.
