Despite a strong start from starting pitcher Matt Garza, the Milwaukee Brewers could not muster enough offense in 10 innings to get past the host Pittsburgh Pirates, falling 2-1.
Garza posted his most impressive outing since last fall, pitching 7-innings of one run ball without even throwing 90 pitches. That one run was given up on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to tie the game after the Brewers’ Orlando Arcia took Pirates star pitcher Gerit Cole in the previous half-frame. It was Josh Harrison’s single that eventually drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
The Brewers will look to salvage one game in Pittsburgh this afternoon at 12:35 p.m.
