Algoma Varsity Baseball held on for a 2-1 non-conference win against Amherst Tuesday. Max Grovogel’s single scored Booker Prokash in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. The win lifted Algoma to (5-2, 3-1) on the season.
Trevor Haasch scored on a Prokash sac fly to tie the game in the 3rd. Casey Nelson added a double for Algoma. Zach Schmidt picks up the win pitching six innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out two. Casey Stangel pitched the seventh to pick up the save. A Zach Wery over the shoulder catch at the wall in left, and a Trevor Haasch diving catch in the fifth saved two runs from scoring for Amherst in the fifth.
Algoma returns to conference action Thursday night with a doubleheader at Sturgeon Bay. Start time will be 4:30 PM.
