Richard K. Malm, 90, of Sister Bay, died early Tuesday morning, April 18, 2017 at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.
He was born November 6, 1926 in Elmhurst, Illinois, the son of the late Gunnard Mattias and Gunda (Sonsteby) Malm. Following his graduation from Glenbard High School in Glen Ellen, Illinois, Richard went on to receive his degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois in 1950. He served his country during WWII with the United States Army. On July 19, 1958, he married Sally Ann Jones in Hartford, Connecticut.
Richard was employed as on-site Architect for Northern Illinois University as well as other construction companyies throughout his professional career. In retirement, he and Sally moved to Door County in 1995.
He was a member of the Unitarian Universal Fellowship of Door County. Richard served on the board for Newport State Park along with volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, The Clearing, and The Ridges.
He is survived by his wife, Sally of Sister Bay; two daughters, Julia (Michael) Gilmarten of Villa Park, Illinois and Karin (Paul Babinec) Malm of Silver Spring, Maryland; three grandchildren, Anna Gilmarten, Lucas Babinec, and Reed Babinec; niece and three nephews, Elizabeth Ann Malm, John Gunnar Malm Jr., Curtis Lytton Malm, and Charles Allen Malm; his great-nieces and great-nephews; along with many dear friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Gunnard and Gunda Malm; and two brothers, John Gunnar Malm and Roy Lincoln Malm.
Private family services will be held.
Memorials may be made in Richard’s memory to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County, Scandia Village, or The Clearing.
