Gibraltar Baseball hung on for a 7-5 win over Sturgeon Bay Tuesday. Casey Weddig was 2×2 with a double and 2 RBIs, Ben Johnson was 2×2 with an RBI and Griffin Reinhardt was 2×3 with an RBI. Connie Brennan had an RBI double. Brandon Emery-Janzen was Gibraltar’s relief pitcher and struck out six. Jake Moeller and Jared VanBramer had multi-hit games for the Clippers. Tanner Degrave tallied two RBI in the loss.
Sevastopol Baseball and Softball lost last night. Jillie Jorns made her first ever appearance as starting pitcher for the Pioneers in a 6-0 loss to Oconto. Coleman shutout the boys 10-0.
Sturgeon Bay Girls Soccer tied Fox Valley Lutheran 1-1 at home Tuesday. In the 29th minute Kylie Sturm scored unassisted on a defended ball dropping a long shot over the Clippers keeper. In the 81st minute, Sturgeon Bay responded late on a beautiful header from Kenzie Blau on a corner kick from Charlie Pollock. Shots on goal were tied at half at 13, but Sturgeon Bay had 17 in the second half and FVL had none (wind was a factor). Coach Bob Desotelle said, “Solid goal keeper work by both goalies (McKenna Gibson SB and Alyssa Charron FVL) and defenses kept this one close. We challenged our team at half to keep focused and find a way to tie the game to give the Clippers a chance at victory and some determined play late offered the team a shot at winning. Our good offensive effort fell a bit short, but the coaching staff is proud of the team’s ability to score late in the match. We can build on this moving forward.”
