Four officers from the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department represented the area Wednesday when Everest Metro Police Detective Jason Weiland was laid to rest. In their first action as a unit, the Kewaunee County Honor Guard participated in the funeral procession that saw hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the country and even Canada pay their respects. After volunteering and participating in training in Oak Creek just months ago, Deputy Rick Karman says the experience was eye-opening.
There are over 80 honor guards in Wisconsin, including units with the Door County Sheriff’s Department and Sturgeon Bay Police Department.
